Leadership

Posted by admin Uncategorized 0

Leadership   One thing about having courage is that it can give you the ability to become a good leader. Being a leader is such a big thing that takes such little effort. Like courage, the general consensus is that you need to do big things or be in a certain place before you can be a leader. All you need to do is to be someones friend. That is really how simple I think it is. The thing about being a leader is humbling yourself to be lead as well. I can bet that some of the most successful people on this earth have had someone influence them in a positive way. For me that is something that is so important to being successful and just being a good person. Getting advice from people can be the best thing but also very hard! I remember recently I was having a conversation with my dad. Now my dad and I are pretty close. I have been very fortunate to have such a good relationship with both of my parents. So we were talking about my speaking and where I am going with it. He started telling me some things that, at that moment, I did not want to hear. I was just waiting for him to stop talking so I could go to work. As I was driving to the office I was thinking about what he had said. I just remember saying “you know, as hard as that was that might be just what I needed to hear.” I believe that I did need to hear that. Like I said, I wasn't super pumped about it at first but after awhile I saw where he was coming from. That is what it takes to be lead. Humbling yourself enough to receive advice. Then when you are in a place to give advice, you will be well equipped. I mentioned this at the beginning that you don’t need to be in a place of seniority to be a leader. All you really need to do is to reach out and be nice to someone. I remember the first time I saw Nick Vujicic speak. He talked a little about the impact you can have on people and that it is as easy as a smile. Smiling is one of the easiest things we can

July – Week 1 C.l.e.a.r.

Courage Over the next few weeks I am going to be writing about each letter of C.L.E.A.R. My hope is that you are encouraged by my take on each of these characteristics. I will share other peoples stories on how they have used some of these characteristics as well. So happy reading!! Courage is the first word in CLEAR so that will be the first word I will be talking about. Courage is a tricky thing sometimes, at least for me anyways. I think it is probably the hardest to figure out because it isn't a tangible thing you can grab on to. Also there are many ways to talk your self out of being courageous. Trust me I deal with that a lot. It is what we all know as fear. FEAR is another acronym which stands for False Evidence Appearing Real. Thats the perfect definition for fear because it is so true. How many times have we've been scared to try something new? I know both of my hands are up on that one! If we can understand that what we are afraid of is not really there, think of how many more things we can do! I tell this story in my speeches sometimes about the first time I ever gave a public speech. I was 13 years old and worked for a non-profit that talked about anti-drugs and alcohol. My very first speech was at Kentwood high school. Now I thought maybe there was going to be about 500 or so students there, which is a lot but I could handle that number. I found out that there 2,000 students sitting in the gym! Oh my goodness! That is a whole lot of people. I bet you can imagine how scared I was! I remember walking out to grab the microphone from my brother hoping something would happen and the assembly would be over so I didn't have to talk. Nothing usually happens like you want. I talked for 10 minutes and did, by my standards, an ok job. The kids loved it! I thought it was so cool that they came up to me to tell me how well I did. First off can I remind you that I was 13!!! Insert scared emoji! I was so nervous. I was so worried about what the kids wo

Tell Your Story

Posted by admin Uncategorized 0

2015-04-Life-of-Pix-free-stock-photos-City-bicycle-San-Francisco-man-Andreas-Winter One of the more important things you can do to help people is to tell your story. To me, this means talking about your life in a way people can relate to you-- it can have a positive impact on a lot of people. You maybe reading this and asking why I think this is important. You also maybe saying 'I don’t have a story to tell!'  Are you breathing? Are you living life? If your answer is yes, especially the first question, then you have a story to tell!! You don’t have to live an extravagant life in order to tell your story. You don’t even have to have lived that long. You just need to live! Even if you feel like you are not full of experiences, you do not need a list of extraordinary feats. If you have done really cool things with your life that is so awesome and include that in your story. But, if you feel you have only done something small like help someone whose car broke down, or buy someone a drink from Starbucks, that is just as important! Sometimes the small things in life can go a long ways. It is great to talk about all of the good things that happen in your life but sometimes talking about your struggles are just as important. Telling someone what you have been through can be tough. It may bring up some memories that might be hard to deal with. There are those who may think, “If I don't tell anyone I am struggling they will think everything is ok.” If we are able to tell people about different life struggle

The Greatest Feeling in the World

Posted by admin Uncategorized 0

Goal setting has been an interesting thing for me over my life. My parents and friends have always told me that it is good to have goals. Honestly, I didn't see the point when I was younger. Five year plans or a “New Years resolution” were things I have never really been into until I started speaking. I started full time speaking three years ago. When I became a full time speaker I wasn't sure how much work there was going to be. I thought just shoot a cool video, put it in an email and you will be set for life. WRONG!! Being a speaker is like starting your own business. Lots of hard work, cold calling and guess what…goal setting!! I think in order to be a successful person we need to have goals. For me these goals that I set to further my career are not about me. I am not doing this to get more Instagram followers or become famous. I do what I do to help people reach their full potential. My hope is that everyone can realize they have potential to do anything they can put their mind to. Don't get me wrong, there are goals I have set that benefit me. My van for instance. That was one of my biggest goals I had when I turned 16. I was bummed out when I couldn't have the same experience that every person turning 16 gets. Getting your license! The interesting thing about goals is sometimes being patient can be more beneficial. Here I am eight years later, EIGHT YEARS!!! I now have my license!

The greatest feeling in the world is when you can accomplish something you've wanted so bad.
Most people will probably think that your goals are unrealistic. They might say you don't have what it takes to achieve the things you want. My opinion is that every goal is realistic, just depends on how much time and effort you want to put into it. I guarantee you LeBron James didn't just say I want to be an NBA player and the next day he was winning championships. It took him many hours in
